Healing easy...
and also very hard
Healing Is Pure Chaos (And Maybe That’s The Point)
Why your grandmother knew more about healing than your doctor does
I have been sick, lost, and drowning in supplements that were supposed to save me. This is what actually helped.
My thoughts on healing are complicated. We live in a world full of contradictions and never any absolutes. It is a wild roller coaster ride of opinions and facts -- and even those “facts” are not always facts. They are products of skewed research paid or manipulated to favor the desired outcome.
Healing really is pure chaos.
It should be simple. Eat well, exercise, live a long life. Yet that is rarely the outcome. Polluted water and food undermine even the best efforts. Stressful lives designed to entrap well-meaning humans keep us running on the hamster wheel until the wheel falls off and we have a health crisis. Been there. Done that. Many times.
So how do we overcome? How do we heal our body, mind, and soul?
Maybe the answer is we don’t. Maybe the harder we try to be healthy, the sicker we are making ourselves. Maybe the absolute stress of eating right, drinking the right water, and taking handfuls of supplements is not the answer.
Maybe the answer lies with our ancestors.
It’s no secret I communicate with the dead. As a medical intuitive, my spiritual gifts are an enigma wrapped in mystery. Even healing my own body is a mystery to me sometimes.
One particularly frustrating day I was crying in my kitchen. This shouldn’t be so hard, I shouted at no one.
And then I heard her. My grandmother’s voice, coming from the void -- the same grandmother who lived to 96. You know what to do, sweetie. Drink a glass of water and take a walk. Eat your fruits and veggies. You can do it.
That is the thing about ancestral wisdom -- it’s always there in the background, waiting fo you to rediscover it. It whispers to your heart exactly what you need in the moments you are most desperate to hear it. It is the same spiritual channel I tune into when I sit with clients as a medical intuitive. Ancient knowing has always been there. We just forgot how to listen.
My grandparents were products of the Depression. Never wanting to go without, they kept a garden that produced every fruit and vegetable their family needed. They bought raw milk from the lady down the street who had a cow. They purchased beans, millet, and corn to make my grandfather’s famous cornbread. They rarely ate meat, preferring a mostly vegetarian diet. They lived simply, joyfully, never rushing, never worried. Just a peaceful existence.
The summer nights I spent with them were filled with hand-cranked homemade peach ice cream and my grandfather playing Edelweiss on a guitar he made himself.
Their healing was simple. They rarely went to doctors, preferring to heal with natural things like cornsilk tea and cayenne pepper. Their lives were evidence that healing is in fact simple and easy when you live simply and easy.
But how does this translate to modern life?
It is the same. Live simply. Eat simply. Do the things you love.
And this, my spiritual humans, is your first lesson in healing.
